Zhejiang Professional are a professional Chinese football team who ply their trade in the Chinese Super League. They were founded back in 1998 and are based in Hangzhou in the Zhejiang region.
Zhejiang play their home games at the Yellow Dragon Sports Center, which has a capacity of over 52,000.
The side are managed by Spaniard Jordi Vinyals, who has been in charge of the side since January 2021. Throughout the years, Zhejiang have had some top Chinese Super League players. Tim Cahill and Tico are among some of the best. Dino Ndlovu is the team’s all-time top scorer. The South African striker scored 42 goals in his 67 appearances for the club.
When the club were first formed in 1998, they were known as Zhejiang Green Town Football Club, and they were financed by a combination of the Greentown Real Estate Company, Hangzhou Qiantang Real Estate Company, Zhejiang University and Zhejiang Provincial Football Association.
The newly formed club entered the bottom tier of the Chinese League in 1999. The new team were dealt a blow, as despite trying to earn promotion up the leagues, the club became embroiled in a bribery scam, which saw the removal of many players and senior management figures.
It wasn’t until 2004 that the team finally managed to get out of the bottom tier of the Chinese League and take their place in China League One. They would establish themselves there until 2007, when the club broke through to the Super League. They would enjoy a 10-year spell there before being relegated back into the first division.
2021 was an exciting year for Zhejiang and their fans, as after five years of trying, they have finally won promotion and a return to the pinnacle of domestic Chinese football for 2022.
