Wuhan play their home games at the 30,000-seater Wuhan Five Rings Sports Center and are currently managed by Li Jinyu, who took on the role in December 2021.

Wuhan have an array of good Chinese Super League players, but arguably their best player is Brazilian forward Rafael Silva, who has scored 32 goals in 42 appearances for the team. Silva is the club’s second highest ever scorer and is closing the gap on Jean Evrard Kouassi, who scored 48 goals in 105 appearances for the club.

Wuhan have won one trophy in their history, which was the Chinese League 1 title back in 2018. The club are not the only team from Wuhan, with the club contesting a Wuhan derby against Wuhan Three Towns.

Wuhan History

Wuhan are one of the most recently established football clubs in the Chinese Super League. Wuhan were founded back in 2009 and have plied their trade in China’s top flight in 2013 and since 2019.

Wuhan were formed following the dissolution of Wuhan Optics Valley. The Hubei Football Association decided that the region needed a new team to help represent the area, and Wuhan Football Club were born. The first team initially comprised players from the dispelled Wuhan Optics Valley team and from various youth teams from around the region. The club was entered into the bottom flight of the Chinese football pyramid in 2009.

The newly formed side achieved promotion into China’s second league at the first time of asking, and after three years in division two, the club achieved promotion to the Chinese Super League in 2013. The club found the top division too tough to handle, and were relegated in their first season. They managed to bounce back into the top flight back in 2019 and have been an ever present since.
