Week 8 Hero I-league Results East Bengal Remain At Top

Week 8 of the Hero I-League kicked off over the weekend with four matches being played, ending with Kingfisher East Bengal remaining in the top spot of the table and Mohun Bagan in second place with 20 and 17 points respectively.

During Saturday’s first match DSK Shivajians ended Shillong Lajong’s four-game winning spree with a 2-1 win at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Shillong.

Sanju Pradhan opened the scoring in the 16th before Asier Pierrick Dipanda Dicka equalised for the hosts in the 33rd minute. But it was Shane Mcfaul’s 44th minute goal that gave the visitors an historic first away win.

Debutants Minerva Punjab held defending champions Bengaluru to a 1-1 draw at the Sree Kanteerava stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday.

After a barren first half Bengaluru took the lead in the 52nd minute through a well-crafted goal from their captain Sunil Chhetri. Then in the 78th minute Kamalpreet Singh forced Sandesh Jhingan into knocking the ball into his own net which Amrinder Singh was unable to prevent.

It was a second I-League victory for newcomers Chennai City after their 2-1 victory over Mumbai City at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in Chennai on Saturday.

Both teams scored a goal each in the first half a minute apart. Mumbai scored first in the 28th minute through an Anderson Raimundo da Silva penalty goal, followed by Chennai’s equaliser after an unmarked Dhanapal Ganesh, who glanced the ball into the far corner.

The winner came from nowhere in the 69th minute through Brazilian Charles do Vale de Souza to give the visitors their sixth straight loss.

On Sunday East Bengal and Mohun Bagan shared the spoils of their goalless draw at the Kanchenjunga Stadium, Siliguri.

Despite the goalless score, there were chances from both sides in this Kolkata derby.  Mohun Bagan got the better chances in the opening twenty minutes, but the game ended with neither side finding the net. However both teams maintain their unbeaten start to the season.
