Umm Salal coach Wesam Rizik has been rewarded for his side’s fine form over December and January by being named the Qatar Stars League’s best coach over the two-month period.
Umm Salal continued their steady climb up the Qatar Stars League table by winning five of their seven league games across the two months. Umm Salal played some dominant football during this time, finding the back of the net 18 times and only conceding seven goals.
Here are the results that won Rizik the award:
Umm Salal beat Al-Duhail 2-1
Umm Salal beat Al-Arabi 2-0
Umm Salal beat Al-Rayyan 3-2
Umm Salal drew 1-1 with Al-Khor
Umm Salal lost 1-2 to Al-Ahli
Umm Salal beat Al-Gharafa 3-1
Umm Salal beat Al-Shamal 6-0
Rizik, a former Qatari national team star who won 111 caps for his country, has only been in charge of Umm Salal for 10 league games, but he has managed to oversee six wins during this time.
His attacking style of play has already won him plenty of plaudits, and Rizik has shown that he is one of the most promising coaches emerging in Qatar.
Umm Salal, who just escaped relegation last year, will be delighted to be currently sitting in sixth spot in the table. They are 15 points above the sides currently in the relegation zone.
Umm Salal have never qualified for the AFC Champions League, and currently they sit just six points off the qualifying spots. Their fans will be hoping that the team can maintain their good run of form and continue their push up the table under Rizik.
