25-year-old Qatari forward Akram Afif has taken the Qatar Stars League by storm this season. The Al Sadd forward is currently fourth in the league’s goal-scoring charts, having found the back of the net 11 times. He has also provided a league-high 13 assists.

Akram has been one of the standout performers in the league this season, and as a reward for his scintillating form, he was named the league’s best player for December and January – and it’s not hard to see why.

Akram found the back of the net nine times and provided a further four assists in the five matches he played across December and January. His contributions helped Al Sadd to record five consecutive wins over the December and January period.

It has been a good return to form for Akram, who has rediscovered his goal-scoring touch after only netting five goals in the whole of last season.

Akram has been a huge factor behind Al Sadd’s league form this season, with the defending champions maintaining a seven-point lead at the top of the QSL.

Al Sadd have dominated the league this year having only dropped two points all year. As the most successful club in Qatar, they look well on course to secure yet another league title. If Al Sadd are to win the league, it will be because of players like Akram.

2022 seems set to be a huge year for Akram, who will be looking to combine domestic glory with a positive showing for Qatar at this year’s World Cup. Qatar fans will be hoping that he can continue his form and help put Qatari football on the map.
