Sharjah FC is stamped in gold in the history books of the UAE Pro League as the winner of the first-ever Pro League cup. The Emirati professional football club backed up this win with five more league trophies. The team was nicknamed ‘The King’ after they won the most UAE President Cups at the time. They are the most successful side in the Emirate of Sharjah.
Sharjah FC play their home games in the multipurpose Sharjah Stadium. This 18,000-capacity sports arena opened in 1976, and the facilities were still good enough to host six games of the prestigious AFC Asian Cup in 2019.
Sharjah Sports Club also owns two sports complexes in Simnan and Al Hazzana area featuring sports halls, two stadia, and other training facilities.
When on home ground, you will find the team in their Adidas-sponsored white jersey. In away fixtures, they sport an all-red kit. Sharjah FC are led by Cosmin Olăroiu, a Romanian football manager and title-holder across four different clubs.
In 1966, Al Oruba Club and Al Khaleej merged to form Al Sharjah SCC, and later in 2017, Al Shaab Club joined to form Sharjah Sports Club. This club is owned by Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, the sovereign ruler of the Emirate of Sharjah.
The team were the first winners of the UAE Pro League during the 1973/1974 season and were known as Al Oruba back then. This football club went on to lift the UAE Pro League trophy five more times.
Besides their outstanding performance in UAE Pro League fixtures, Sharjah FC have also been successful in the UAE President’s Cup and Super Cup, having won eight and two titles, respectively.
Some notable players to represent the team are Igor Coronado and Ricardo Gomes. Sharjah FC’s most successful manager is Abdulaziz Mohammed Al Anberi, who went on to win a league title and a Super Cup during his spell.
