Shabab Al Ahli are the second most successful side among the UAE Pro League teams. The ‘Red Knights’, as they are called, have 10 league titles to their name. Their home ground is a football fortress that holds up to 12,000 spectators. When opponents play at Rashid Stadium, they know that they are up against one of the best footballing teams in the Middle East. Although the stadium was built in 1948, it has been revamped, making it worthy of hosting FIFA tournaments.
Apart from Rashid Stadium, the club also have Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum Stadium and Al Aweer Stadium as their second and third home grounds. These two other stadia were adopted following the merger of the three clubs.
When on home ground, the Red Knights wear an all-red kit, but the team wears an all-green kit on away duties. Shabab Al Ahli are led by the former Emirati footballer Mahdi Ali.
Shabab Al Ahli are a product of a 1970 merger between two football clubs, one of which was established in 1958. The club is involved in different sports and also have the Al Ahli Drama Club, which helps to shine more light on Emirates arts and culture.
Shabab Al Ahli participated in the pilot edition of the UAE Pro League in 1973/1974, where they came second after losing the title to Sharjah. However, the Red Knights went on to win the next two editions. The club has won eight more UAE Pro League titles. This Emirati football club also has five UAE Super Cups, six Arabian Gulf Cups, and 14 UAE President’s Cups.
Some of their notable players are Mehdi Ghayedi and Ahmed Khalil. The coach joined Al Ahli in 2017 and has led the team to win three cups.
