Saturday Match Results As Week 4 Of Hero I-League Begins

Hero I-League newcomers Churchill Brothers have opened their account, recording their first points after their 1-1 draw with DSK Shivajians at Balewadi Sports Complex, Pune on Saturday.

The  visitors dominated proceedings and had the first real opportunity as early as the 6th minute, but the first goal came from the hosts through Seong-Yong Kim in the 22 minute, after he slotted home his second goal in as many games.

Churchill Brothers brought on sub Surchandra Singh in the 85th minute, whose first vital contribution was to win a corner which brought about the equaliser which saw Adil Khan heading home the ball to break DSK Shivajians’ hearts.

Meanwhile Mohun Bagan have maintained pole position after beating Chennai City FC 2-1 on Saturday at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai.

The three goals were all scored in the second half, with Marcos Vinicius, aka Tank, opening the scoring in the 52nd minute to give the debutants their first goal and a lead against Mohun Bagan.

Jeje Lalpekhlua cancelled that goal out a four minutes later after Sony Norde’s dangerous run and cross from the left  tricked the defenders, before getting to the touchline from the left wing to find Duffy. His shot was blocked by a Chennai defender and bounced up for Jeje to volley in from point blank range!

But it was Sony Norde who opened his account for the season after scoring the winner for Mohun in the 77th minute.

During the other Saturday match, Shillong Lajong recorded their first ever points on the I-League table after their 2- victory over Minerva Punjab at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong.

Two first half goals from Rupert Nongrum in the 17th minute and Asier Dipanda in the 42nd minute were enough to secure their win on home ground and see them jump up to 7th in the I-League points table.

Minerva managed to pull one back in the second half of added time through Loveday Okechukwu.
