Remaining Match Day 18 Results

The last three games of Match Day 18 of the Indian Super League (ISL) were played out over the weekend with victories for 2nd placed Chennaiyin, Goa and Atletico de Kolkata.

During Saturday’s match, Chennaiyin had a 1-0 victory over Mumbai City at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium to finish in 2nd spot on the league table, behind Bengaluru with 32 points.

It was a 67th minute penalty strike by Slovenian Rene Mihelic that sealed the win after he slotted the ball past a diving Arindam Bhattacharja.

A goal from Balwant Singh for Mumbai in the dying seconds was disallowed, for being off-side.

On Sunday FC Goa blanked Jamshedpur FC 3-0 to seal a last-four spot in an eventful ISL match which saw both the rival goalkeepers being red-carded at JRD Tata Sports Complex.

Goa needed at least a draw to seal their spot in the final four, but a win takes them to third in the table, one place above FC Pune City.

Jamshedour were down to 10 men in the early stages of the game as Subrata Paul was given the marching order for handling the ball outside the penalty box, the sending off proving to be the difference between the host and eventual winner.

Spanish forward Ferran Corominas struck twice for Goa in the 29th and 51st minute, while Manuel Lanzarote also found the back of the net.

Sunday’s other game ended in a 1-0 victory for defending champions Atletico de Kolkata (ATK) as they hosted NorthEast United at Salt Lake Stadium.

This was player-manager Robbie Keane’s first match in this role and Ireland’s record international goalscorer scored the winner himself in the 10th minute to give ATK their first win in eight matches.

ATK were playing under their third manager this season, Keane having taken over from Ashley Westwood who stepped down from his roll after six losses.
