Mohun Beat Aizawl 3-2 While Minerva Register Maiden Win

Darryl Duffy scored a brace during Mohun Bagan’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Aizawl, during Saturday’s Hyundai A-League match at the Rabindra Sarovar Stadium in Kolkata.

Bagan went ahead in the 2nd minute in what was the fastest goal of the league so far, after Duffy beautifully headed home a Katsumi Yusa cross.

Aizawl equalised through Jayesh Rane in the 41st minute, after H. Lalmuankima effortlessly passed the ball for Kamo Bayi who squared the ball from inside the box for Jayesh Rane to prod into an open goal.

Jeje lalpekhlua put the hosts ahead for the second time scoring off a fine Prabir Das pass in the 63rd minute, but the visitors were quick to equalise in the 70th minute as Ashutosh Mehta rose over the Bagan defence to simply head home a Rane corner.

Duffy fired his brace into the bottom right corner in the 84th minute to seal the hard fought match for the The Mariners. The goal was Duffy’s sixth goal from five matches and sees him go past CK Vineeth to become this season’s leading goal scorer.

During the other Saturday match, debutants Minerva Punjab registered their first I-league win with a 2-1 victory over Mumbai FC at the Guru Nanak Stadium in Ludhiana.

The first half saw end to end action, but although both sides came close, neither side registered a goal. The second half kicked off with an eagerness to break the deadlock, which finally happened in the 57th minute through Baoringdao Bodo, who converted a cross from Anirudh Thapa.

The next one came in quick succession 10 minutes later, after Anirudh Thapa scored from a free-kick goal beating Kattimani at the far post.

Karan Sawhney pulled one back in the 77th minute, heading home Steven Dias’ cross, but this was not enough to save Mumbai FC from their fifth consecutive loss.
