Hero I-league week 2 commenced on Friday 13th January with 2 games between Aizawl and Minerva Punjab which ended 1-0 and Mohun Bagan and Shillong Lajong, which saw Mohun leapfrog past Aizawl to the top of the ladder.
Whilst over the weekend DSK Shivajians beat East Bengal 1-2, Bengaluru had a 2-0 victory over Chennai City and Churchill Brothers were beaten 1-2 by Mumbai City.
Aizawl left it late as they snatched an injury time winner at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Aizawl. An own goal by Loveday Okechukwu in the fourth minute of injury time gave Aizawl their first win of the I-League.
Scottish striker Darryl Duffy scored a brace in the 21st and 77th minute of Mohun Bagan’s 2-0 victory over Shillong Lajong at the Rabindra Sarobar Stadium in Kolkata.
It was their second win in a row which secured them a place at the top of the ladder. For Shillong it was their second consecutive defeat after losing 3-0 to Bengaluru.
East Bengal registered their first victory of the new I-League season as they beat DSK Shivajians at the Balewadi Stadium in Pune.
The Bengal giants took the lead through a Wedson Anselme penalty, but Gouramangi Singh equalised for DSK Shivajians 20 minutes into the second half. Willis Plaza made no mistake to seal Bengal’s win in the 80th minute.
Late goals sealed Bengaluru’s 2-0 win over Chennai City on Saturday at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium.
Super subs Roby Norales impressed for his new club opening the scoring in the 77th minute and CK Vineeth doubled the score just 3 minutes later.
On Sunday Mumbai had their second successive win as they rallied to beat Churchill Brothers 2-1 at the Tilak Maidan Stadium.
Brandon Fernandes opened the scoring for Churchill in the 4th minute which was cancelled out by Victorino Fernandes half an hour later. The winning goal being scored in a dramatic action as substitute Karan Sawhney scored in the second minute of added time
