Khorfakkan FC is one of the 14 UAE Pro League teams. Khorfakkan goes by the nickname ‘Al Nusur’, which translates to ‘Eagle’ in English. Their home ground is the Saqr Bin Mohammad Al Qassimi Stadium. Originally constructed in 1988, the grounds have since undergone infrastructural changes and now effectively accommodate 6,132 fans.
The team’s kits are mostly monochrome colors – green for home matches and white for away meets. There is the third kit in all-black colors. Khorfakkan are managed by Gabriel Humberto Calderón from Argentina.
The history of Khorfakkan goes back to 1981 when the club was known as ‘Al Khaleej’. They were rebranded as Khorfakkan in 2017, an overhaul that gave rise to an entirely new logo that utilizes their Al Nusur (Eagles) nickname. His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qasimi initiated the club’s name change.
Khorfakkan enjoyed a share of the limelight in the 1993/1994 season when they lifted the UAE Confederation Cup. They have also emerged as champions of the first tier on several occasions. However, upon entering the UAE Pro League in the 2008/2009 edition, they fell off right afterward. The club eventually made its way back to the league in 2019 after ranking top of UAE Division One.
One of the most prominent figures at Khorfakkan was Abdullah Alwan. After his spell at the club from the 1980s through the 1990s, he took up a position among the training staff. Instilling his skill and discipline, the captain impacted many players in the squad. He passed away in 2019 following health issues.
Khorfakkan has always had youth teams teeming with talent. From all the indications, the youth team might just be the department that gives Khorfakkan a shot at the UAE Pro League title.
