Goa Score First Win Against ATK With A 5-1 Scoreline

FC Goa scored their first ever win against Atletico de Kolkata (ATK), in a dominating match at The Nehru Stadium on Wednesday to move closer to the semis spot.

The result saw Goa take their tally to 27 points from 17 games, one point ahead of Jamshedpur FC, who they will play against in their last league match on March 4th.

Sergio Juste Marin leapt high to head home the opener for the hosts in the 10th minute after Hugo Boumous won a corner.

The lead was increased just 5 minutes later after Lanzarote scored a brace in the 15th and 21st minute. His first with a calm finish from the right after the rebound from Soram Poirei’s save off Mandar Rao Dessai’s shot from the left, fell for the Spaniard. He bagged his 11th goal this season minutes later, curling the ball into the top left side the goal.

Following Anwar Ali guilty of bringing down the Golden Boot contender, Corominas converted the free kick in the 64th minute for Goa’s 4th.

Robbie Keane scored a consolation goal for the visitors in the 87th minute after Zequinha’s pass found him and despite Naveen getting a touch of it, Keane’s effort went in off the post.

It wasn’t the end for Goa, scoring once more through Mark Sifneos in the dying moments of the game to end the match with a 5-1 victory.

After the match Goa coach Sergio Lobera said he didn’t consider Goa’s performance to be perfect.

“I don’t think perfection exists. There are always things that we can improve upon but I am very happy with the performance that my boys put out there today (Wednesday). We were taking on a team that was going through a negative phase. So it was important that we started well. I’m happy with the result but the most important thing is the match (against Jamshedpur FC) that comes up,” he said.
