Tuesday and Wednesday of last week, saw games 33 and 34 of the ISL played out resulting in 8 goals in total after Kerala Blasters’ 2-1 victory over FC Goa and Delhi Dynamos’ 4-1 thrashing of Chennaiyin FC.
In the first match at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium it was the visitors that took the lead in the 9th minute through Rafael Coelho, after Kerala’s defenders were caught off-guard. Robin Singh won a free kick, which Richarlyson Barbosa Felisbino put into the box, for Coelho to jump the highest and head it past the legs of goalkeeper Graham Stack.
The score remained the same throughout the first half but the second half started disastrously for Goa after captain Gregory Arnolin was adjudged to have handled a deflected ball inside the penalty box. The referee awarded a penalty and gave Arnolin his marching orders. Kervens Belfort made no mistake, coolly dispatching the penalty in the 48th minute.
With 9 minutes of added time, Goa were down to 8 men after Romeo was stretchered off, then CK Vineeth bundled in the winner to give Kerala an extremely important 2-1 victory.
It was the same venue for the Delhi Dynamos and Chennaiyin on Wednesday, which once again saw the hosts taking all 3 points. The defending champions were devoured by the Dynamos, with Florent Malouda running rampant and scoring a brace after Richard Gadze netted the opening goal in the 15th minute, from the former France and Chelsea star’s rebound.
Ten minutes later and Malouda had doubled the score with his first ever ISL goal, which Gazde had a turn in. But just when it started to look like the Dynamos would continue with their intensity, Chennaiyin pulled one back in the 37th minute through their captain Bernard Mendy.
Keon Lewis got his name on the score sheet in the 54th minute and Malouda scored his second with a late goal in the 84th minute to give his side a memorable win.
