DSK Shivajians beat Bengaluru FC 2-0 on Wednesday in the second round match at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, Odisha, throwing open Group B of the 2017 Federation Cup.
Coming into this match, DSK had lost their first encounter 4-0 to Mohun Bagan and were lying bottom of the table, while Bengaluru had squeezed past Shillong Lajong 3-2 to earn three points in their first match.
DSK’s Spanish midfielder Juan Quero scored a fantastic brace to give his team a memorable win against Bengaluru and keeps his side in the hunt for the spot in the semifinals. Check out all the live scores for football here.
Bengaluru FC started the game dominating the proceedings, putting pressure on DSK’s goal and keeping its defenders busy, but the first half ended goalless.
The game turned on it’s head in the 69th minute after DSK were awarded a penalty. Chhangte had surged forward and found himself one-on-one with the keeper Ralte. He took the ball past the keeper but before he could get a shot away, Ralte brought him down.
Quero made no mistake in the 70th minute to give DSK the lead. Just 6 minutes later and Chhangte was brought down again near the edge of the box. The Spanish midfielder once again took the free-kick, swiping a thumping effort at the near post with the shot flying into the top corner.
Bengaluru played desperately for an equaliser thereafter but DSK held on comfortably to notch their first victory in the competition.
The result means the two teams advancing to the semifinals from the group will be decided in the third round of matches on Friday.
