League leaders Bengaluru FC inflicted a 2-0 defeat on Jamshedpur FC in an Indian Super League (ISL) clash at the Kalinga Stadium on Sunday.
This was Jamshedpur FC’s fifth defeat which leaves them sitting at fourth spot in the table, just one point ahead of Kerala Blasters FC with one game remaining.
Bengaluru dominated the first half from the start and could have gone ahead as early as the 9th minute, but skipper Sunil Chhetri failed to convert a chance and get the deflection when Nicolas Fedor fed the ball from the right flank.
Fedor found the back of the net himself in the 23rd minute after he converted a penalty by sending Subrata Paul the other way and scoring to his left for the visitors first goal.
Chhetri doubled the lead for the visitors in the 34th minute, by heading the ball into the net following a corner kick by Spanish midfielder Dimas Delgado.
After the match Jamshedpur coach Steve Coppell praised Bengaluru and that he was choosing to focus on the final week.
“I will compliment Bengaluru. They are the best team in ISL. They proved that by winning seven out of their nine away game which is exceptional. The two goals we conceded were back passes which were unlike us as we don’t back pass.
“In the second half we needed a break. If we got a goal it would have been interesting. We had 20 odd shots but there goalkeeper made terrific saves. We were a little bit relaxed today but I think that was because of the quality of the opposition.” the former Kerala Blasters coach explained.
“We have to come back strongly and get the goals in the final (match). There is still a lot to play for. It will be difficult. Kerala are there, Mumbai are there. For ISL, it will be terrific final week,” the Englishman went on to add.
