Debedants Bengaluru FC have become the first team to qualify for the semi-finals of this season’s Indian Super League, after notching up a 2-0 win over FC Goa on Friday at Kanteerava Stadium.
Goa had started proceedings by dominating possession but it was Bengaluru who struck first with a goal in the 35th minute through Edu Garcia, with a looping header into the top corner of the post.
The game was sealed in the 82nd after Garcia broke forward on the counter and brought the ball into the centre. Toni Dovakke headed it into the path of Dimas Delgado Morgado who slotted the ball past a hapless Naveen Kumar.
The 2-0 result for Bengaluru means that Albert Roca’s men have sealed their place in the playoffs, with 30 points from 14 matches and are on the verge of making history if they win their next match against Pune FC, making it a record sixth on the trot.
Meanwhile FC Goa who placed sixth with 20 points from 13 fixtures.
Jamshedpur FC had an important victory over NorthEast United in their clash at the JRD Tata Sports Complex on Saturday.
The visitors were in control of the match right from kick-off and dominated proceedings for a majority of the game.
But Wellington Priori scored a sensational goal in the 51st minute through an overhead kick to seal all 3 points for Steve Coppell’s side and help them to third place of the ISL ladder with 25 points.
Since the arrival of Priori, Jamshedpur FC have been victorious in five of their six matches and his latest goal has been hailed as one of the best of the season and overshadowed goalkeeper Subrata Paul’s achievement of becoming the first man to keep 20 clean sheets in the ISL.
