Al Jazira Club has won three UAE Pro League titles in the space of just a decade – a feat that solidifies the relevance of its nickname ‘The Pride of Abu Dhabi’. Al Jazira is one of the biggest teams in the UAE. Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium is the home ground of Al Jazira and has been since 1980. This venue initially had a seating capacity of 15,000, but it was later expanded to 37,500. The renovations extend to the world-class facilities that made it worthy of hosting some of the biggest events in football.
The team’s kits are designed by Puma, with the home kit having black stripes on white. In away games, the team wears a red and white kit. The club’s manager is Marcel Keizer, a Dutch former player.
This renowned football side started as Khalidiya in 1974. That year, they joined forces with Al Bateen and changed their name to Al Jazira. The club, chaired by Mansour Al Nahyan, is dedicated to promoting home-grown talent development through their youth academy.
Al Jazira made their debut in the UAE Pro League in the 1983/1984 season. They won the title in the 2010/2011 season for the first time. They also won the league in the 2016/2017 and 2020/2021 seasons.
Al Jazira has also been successful in other competitions, with a Federation Cup in 2006/2007, a GCC Champions League in 2006/2007, a UAE League Cup in 2009/2010, and the President’s Cup on three occasions.
All-time great George Weah once played for the club. Also, Al Jazira produced the UAE Pro League’s all-time top scorer, Ali Mabkhout. Abel Braga is Al Jazira’s most successful coach, having won three titles in his first stint at the club.
