Al Dhafra FC is a member of the UAE Pro League. The team’s nickname is ‘Al Fursan Al Gharib’, which translates to ‘The Western Knights’. The club’s UAE Pro League fixtures at home are played at Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Stadium. This venue was built in 2006 and can hold up to 5,167 spectators.
Al Dhafra wear sky blue and yellow for their home matches, whereas their kit colors are dark blue and yellow when they play games away from home. Their coach, Rogério Micale (also known as Mário Rogério Reis Micale), is a Brazilian national and a former player with a wealth of experience at youth and U20 sides in Brazil.
Al Dhafra became a fully legal footballing entity when it was founded in the year 2000 via the Etisalat Pro League. Al Dhafra ventured into the forefront of UAE football when they were promoted to the Spotlight League from the ‘First Season’ division in the 2001/2002 season. Since joining the UAE Pro League in 2008, Al Dhafra has only missed out on one edition.
UAE Pro League fixtures are not the only events that Al Dhafra engages in. Al Dhafra have a futsal squad headed by Dejan Đedović, which participates in the AFC Futsal Club Championship.
With Hamdan bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan as the owner, Al Dhafra’s goal is to develop sports and youth all around the UAE. The football club hasn’t had the privilege of winning the league yet. However, they took home the Vice President’s Cup in 2012 and are two-time winners of the First Division League. Top players in the club are Makhete Diop, Issam El Adoua, Amran Amur Aljassasi and Khalid Ali Aldarmaki.
