Aizawl Top I-League Table At The End Of Round 11

Aizawl FC leapfrogged to the top of the Hero I-League table after their Round 11 1-0 home win over Chennai City, at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium on Saturday.

The first shot from the home side came in the 12th minute, but like others was easily saved by Chennai City keeper Karanjit Singh.

Although the hosts put in a dominant display they failed to convert opportunities that came their way, taking until the 53rd minute to eventually find the back of the net.

That’s when Aizawl’s domination paid off with Brandon Vanlalremdika scored off an assist from the right by Ivorian forward Kamo Stephane Bayi to register his third goal of the season.

Throughout the remaining match the visitors tried for an equaliser but they could not penetrate Aizawl’s defence and the game ended 1-0.

During the other Saturday match, defending champions Bengaluru FC were thrashed 3-1 by East Bengal FC at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru.

East Bengal completely dominated proceedings with Wedson Anselme opening the scoring in the 23rd minute, rushing past Juan Juanan to curl in a sensational left footer into the far top corner of the Bengaluru goal.

The returning Robin Singh scored a brace against his former team mates. The first goal in the 54th minute after his downward header fooled Arindam and bounced into the net past Jhingan.

Five minutes later and he scored again after Chris Payne chested a brilliant pass into his path, which Singh converted from close range with Bengaluru defenders all over the place.

Bengaluru finally pulled one back in the 85th minute through CK Vineeth after some nice interplay on the edge of the box between Chhetri and Udanta.  The Indian skipper sent Udanta clear into the box and the winger flashed a low cross across which is bundled in by Vineeth at the far post!
