Defending champions Bengaluru FC snapped a seven-game winless run on Sunday in their Round 12 match, with a 1-0 victory over Minerva Punjab at Guru Nanak Stadium in Ludhiana.
Lenny Rodrigues scored the only goal of the game in the 17th minute, to give the visitors all 3 points that saw them jump to fourth place on the Hero I-League table with 16 points.
Cameron Watson floated in a free kick which Rodrigues headed into goal, past home keeper Arnab Das Sharma, to give him his first of the season since signing with the club back in the summer.
The defeat ended Minerva’s six-game unbeaten run and they remain in seventh place with 11 points.
The other Sunday fixture between Chennai City and DSK Shivajians ended in a 1-1 draw at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at Chennai.
Chennai opened the scoring just before half-time. Nandhakumar stood over the corner and found Fakhruddin Amiri left alone in the near post. His delivery was at a comfortable height for the Afghan who jumped, recoiled and placed a header past Subrata from close range.
It looked as if the hosts would claim all 3 points after a defiant second half performance. They could have added a second late in the game against the run of play, but were denied by some brave last-ditch defending from the Pune-based outfit.
But just when they thought they were safe, DSK scored in the second minute of eight minutes stoppage time. Charles attempted a scissors cut looped off a DSK player which fell straight to an unmarked McFaul, who volleyed a first time finish into the bottom left corner.
The result leaves Chennai at the bottom of the table while DSK climbs to seventh place.
